INDIANAPOLIS – After a host of year-end recognitions, the Uindy women's tennis team turns their focus to the GLVC Championship Tournament this Saturday, May 1.
Last season, the Greyhounds won their fifth-straight Tournament Championship, with a 4-1 victory over Rockhurst.
The field will host the top-three teams based on highest divisional winning percentage from each of the GLVC's two divisions – East and West – earn a spot in the six-team, single-elimination tournament. After clinching another regular season title, UIndy comes into the tournament as the #1 Seed from the East Division.
Despite an injury-riddled start to the season, the Hounds have come into form back at full strength, entering the tournament on a seven match win streak that dates back to a 4-0 win against Tusculum March 12th.
They've also been featured in the NCAA Regional Rankings, coming in at No. 8 in the Midwest this past Wednesday. UIndy sports a 10-5 record against DII opponents, with an 8-1 within the Midwest region. The lone in-region defeat is tied with Wayne State for the lowest number of losses among the top-10.
Just yesterday, four Hounds were featured on the All-GLVC First Team, leading the conference in total recognitions. No. 37 Tyffaine Pais, Suryanshi, Sofia Cardenas, and Jimena de Pablos Hernando were all given year-end honors for their high-level performance in the regular season.
UIndy will play at 2 PM this Saturday, May 3, as the #1 seed in the tournament semifinal. They will face the winner of Drury and UMSL.
