PUEBLO, Colo. - The UIndy track and field team capped its time at the NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Colorado on Thursday. Hosted by Colorado State-Pueblo, the Hounds battled windy conditions and high altitudes, with the facility sitting 4,690 feet above sea level.
Alex Meyer and
Josue Le Cadre made program history for the Greyhounds, becoming National Champions in their respective events. This is the first time the men's team has ever had two national champions in the same meet. This happened last at the
2021 Indoor National Championships with Lauren Bailey (5000m) and Berenice Cleyet-Merle (800m).
The men's team tied for 11th in the final team standings with 20 points. This is the most points scored by a Greyhound team since the 2013 Indoor Track & Field Championships, when the Hounds gathered 30 points.
SATURDAY
After winning his preliminary heat, Le Cadre entered the finals as the third seed. The sophomore took his time moving up to the front. He was in fourth after the first lap around the track, but during the final lap, Le Cadre made his move. The Frenchman took the lead and created a 10-meter gap between him and the second-place finisher to win. Clocking 1:48.16, Le Cadre claimed his first national title and second All-America finish (indoor 800) in his first year as a collegiate athlete.
FRIDAY
Le Cadre took on the 800m prelims Friday evening. The sophomore won his heat, securing his place in Saturday's final. Le Cadre's time of 1:49.10 was the third-best time of the day, just behind John Correa (1:48.81) of Central Washington and Gabe McConville (1:48.97) of Tampa.
THURSDAY
Alex Meyer claimed a national title in the long jump with a school record-breaking mark of 7.70m. Meyer entered the weekend as the 17th seed and was looking for redemption after placing just outside All-America status at last year's outdoor championships. The sophomore's winning jump was the very first jump of the competition, as he was the first jumper in the first heat. The 7.70m distance also set a program record, breaking Roderick Coleman's record of 7.67m from 1996. Meyer is the first Greyhound to win the long jump in program history
Zoe Pentecost competed in the hammer throw at the National meet for the third time in her career. The senior placed ninth in the event with a mark of 56.42m.
Felix Rivet took on the 3000m steeplechase preliminary race. Despite not making it to tomorrow's finals, Rivet finished in 9:28.74, placing eighth in his heat and 19th overall.
