INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy men's soccer team soared past the Peacocks on Friday night, 4-2, earning the team's fourth straight win, and second GLVC win on the season.
In four meetings against Upper Iowa, the Hounds have outscored the Peacocks, 10-2, including a 5-0 win in the team's first ever meeting in 2007.
Along with the offensive flurry from UIndy, which saw the Hounds score four times on 18 shots, this one was also very chippy, as there were 26 fouls, and five yellow cards combined between the teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Things got going in this one right away, with Keerti Unnamatla coming up with a big save in the game's first two minutes of the match on a high driven shot.
But the highlight of the first half was Gio Terlizzi who scored an absolute screamer from 20 yards, his one time hit nestled into the upper left corner, giving no chance to Upper Iowa's Noah Nymark Pedersen, and putting the Hounds ahead 1-0 after 12 minutes.
The Hounds' next two goals came in quick succession, as
Sam Siegel netted his first career goal for the Greyhounds in the 18th minute, which was followed by Terlizzi's penalty attempt that beat the outstretched hand of Nymark Pedersen to put UIndy comfortably ahead, 3-0 just 20 minutes into the match.
Upper Iowa got one back with eight minutes left in the first half off a header from a corner kick to make the score 3-1 headed to halftime.
The second half became very contentious, very quickly, as there were nine fouls combined between both teams before the second half's first shot on target on a direct free kick from Upper Iowa that forced a save from Unnamatla in the 73rd minute.
After some chippy play from both sides to start the half, the final 15 minutes became wide open and chaotic, which began in the 78th minute, with
Colin Elder scoring his third goal of the season on an assist from
Alvaro Sanchez to push UIndy's lead to three.
The Peacocks got that goal back less than four minutes later to cut the Hounds' lead back to two.
UIndy saw out the final nine minutes after a handful of chances on both ends, clinching the team's fourth consecutive victory in their 2025 campaign.
