UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – After aiding the University of Indianapolis football team to an historic run the past for seasons, UIndy Offensive Coordinator Michael Engle was announced today as the new head coach at in-region Saginaw Valley State University. In his four years on campus, Engle helped the Greyhounds to a 39-8 (.830) record, including a program-first four consecutive playoff appearances.
"I am extremely grateful to Coach Keevers for giving me the opportunity to become a part of the UIndy football program four years ago," said Engle, "and for the continued trust and belief he showed in me when he promoted me to offensive coordinator. It's been very special to be a part of this team and the University community these last four years.
"I am so appreciative of all of our players, and for all of the support from the UIndy Athletics Department, alumni, students and fans. I will always value my time at UIndy and the people who made it special, and I look forward to the next chapter of my career."
Engle joined the UIndy staff prior to the 2022 campaign, taking over the quarterbacks coach position while also coordinating the team's passing game. He moved to offensive coordinator in 2024 and also added Assistant Head Coach to his titles this past season. Since '22, the Hounds compiled an absolutely dominant 23-1 (.958) mark in GLVC play, capturing four outright conference titles in that span.
"We are very excited for Coach Engle," shared UIndy Head Coach
Chris Keevers on his protege's new position. "He did a great job for us, and we wish him the best at Saginaw Valley."
This past fall marked one of the greatest season in UIndy football history. For his part, Engle orchestrated one of the nation's most prolific offenses, with the Greyhounds ranking second in DII in both total offense (500.3 ypg) and scoring offense (46.0 ppg). UIndy also ranked in the top 10 in DII in passing offense, third-down conversion percentage and red zone offense. UIndy
won its playoff opener and ultimately earned its highest-ever position in the
final coaches poll.
Engle also mentored senior quarterback
Gavin Sukup to a record-breaking season in 2025. The first-ever three-time
GLVC Offensive Player of the Year, Sukup led all Division II QBs in completion percentage and passing efficiency while ranking second in passing TDs and fourth in passing yards. Sukup also was voted the runner-up for the prestigious
Harlon Hill Trophy and was named to the
All-America First Team by the AFCA. He finished his time at UIndy as the school's single-season and career record holder in both touchdown passes and passing yards.
