INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy baseball team earned the No. 9 spot in the latest NCAA Division II Midwest Regional rankings, released Wednesday. The announcement comes after
a trio of wins over No. 25-ranked Illinois Springfield over the weekend.Â
After not being featured in last week's rankings, the Hounds make its first appearance in the regional rankings this season, and sit behind four other GLVC teams; Illinois Springfield, Missouri S&T, Drury and Maryville.Â
The Greyhounds would not be in the regional field if the tournament started today, with only the top eight teams from the Midwest region earning themselves a spot in the NCAA Tournament field. But UIndy still has plenty of opportunity to move up into that top eight, with the GLVC Tournament just on the horizon, and set to get underway on May 6.Â
The complete field of teams will be announced on NCAA.com on Sunday, May 10, with the NCAA DII Midwest Regional set to begin on Thursday May 14 and run through Saturday May 17. The top two seeds from each region will each host games that are a part of the eight-team double-elimination bracket. The winners of both sections of the bracket will then play a best-of-three series on May 21-23 in the NCAA DII Midwest Super Regional.Â
