On tap: The Greyhounds will play their final two games at home, hosting Ashland Saturday before the season finale with Northern Michigan. AU is coming off a tough 48-42 loss at #1 Grand Valley State, a game in which the Eagles led by 15 with just over 20 minutes left.
Series history: Ashland holds a 17-10 edge in the all-time series between the schools. The Eagles and Greyhounds have not played since the 2005 season, a 20-3 Ashland victory on Nov. 5, 2005. UIndy won the last meeting at Key Stadium, besting the Eagles 24-21 on Nov. 6, 2004.
About UIndy Head Coach Joe Polizzi: Head Coach Joe Polizzi, now in his 15th season, is 79-81-1 in his tenure at UIndy. Polizzi has collected eight winning seasons in that time, including the last three straight.
About AU Head Coach Lee Owens: Coach Owens is in his fifth season at the helm of the Ashland program and has posted a 32-19 record in that span. Owens is 1-1 against the Greyhounds, with the home team winning both affairs.
Grand Man: Senior
Craig Jenkins surpassed 1,000 yards for the season last week, giving him his second 1,000-yard rushing season. He becomes just the third UIndy player to record two 1,000-yard seasons. Dick Nalley ('75, '76) and Duddy Reeves ('77, '78) helped post four straight 1,000-yard campaigns for Greyhound runners. UIndy has now produced three consecutive 1,000-yard backs (Jenkins- 2006,
Eric Wright- 2007, Jenkins- 2008).
Record Watch: Craig Jenkins needs only 88 yards to break the school's single-season rushing record (1,136), a mark he set in 2006. At his current pace (116.6 ypg), Jenkins would blow the record out of the water, surpassing the mark by over 150 yards.
Rush Decisions: UIndy is the top rushing team in the GLIAC, averaging 233 rushing yards per contest this season. The Hounds have gathered 2,097 rush yards and have three players in the top 20 in rushing (Jenkins, Campbell, Lasker).
Making a Point: The Greyhounds racked-up 54 points in the win at Tiffin Saturday, the highest output since a Sep. 20, 2003 overtime win vs. Michigan Tech (59-52). UIndy's 27 second-quarter points were the most in a quarter since the Hounds hung 30 on Saint Joseph's in the first quarter of a Sep. 6, 2003 contest.
Ray's Day: Craig Ray collected his second two-interception game of the season in the win at Tiffin (at Saginaw Valley State- 9/27). Ray gathered 112 yards in his two returns, including a 62-yard jaunt for a score. It was the first interception return TD by a Greyhound since the 2004 season, when three different players achieved the feat (
Kenneth Akridge, Carl Lile, Neimiah Simons). Ray ranks first in the conference in passes defended with 13.
"Crimson" Zone: The Crimson and Grey are third in the league in Red Zone scoring this season, converting on 87.5 percent of their opportunities (28-of-32). UIndy was 7-for-8 at Tiffin, with the only non-conversion coming as the Hounds kneeled it to end the game.
Sanford Ties Chez : Senior
Kevin Sanford hauled-in his team-leading fourth receiving TD last week, giving him 18 for his career. With the fourth-quarter score at Tiffin, Sanford moved into a tie for fourth place all-time at the school in terms of career receiving touchdowns:
