SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The UIndy men's soccer squad played an even contest with the nation's third-ranked team in Drury, but a pair of late Panther goals proved to be the difference in a 2-0 defeat for the Greyhounds on Sunday afternoon.
Indianapolis and Drury played an even first half with both squads firing four shots. The Hounds put all four shots on goal, but could not put one passed Panther netminder Stephen Conner. UIndy keeper
Justin Roberts collected a pair of saves as well in the first half to keep the match scoreless after 45 minutes.
Drury (14-1-0, 11-1-0 GLVC), who suffered their lone loss of the season on Friday to Northern Kentucky, would take charge in the second half, outshooting Indianapolis 10-3 in the second stanza.
The Panthers would break the scoreless tie in the 80th minute after a corner kick from Ben Nabers was headed into the back of the net by Micah Whorton.
Indianapolis looked to get the equalizer late in the contest, but a shot by
Cory Barber in the 88th minute sailed high and would be the last attempt the Greyhounds would get.
Andrew Bordelon sealed the victory for the Panthers in the 90th minute after connecting from 10 yards out on assists by David Emnett and Brett Murray.
The Hounds were led offensively by freshmen
Bobby Adkins and
Max Marsh who accounted for all four UIndy shots that were on goal, as each fired a pair of shots that were turned away by Conner.
Indianapolis falls to 7-6-2 on the season and 5-6-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference contests with the defeat. The Greyhounds will look to keep their GLVC Tournament hopes alive when they return home for a match with Missouri S&T on Friday at Key Stadium. Kick-off is slated for 7:30 PM.
