EVANSVILLE, Ind.- The Greyhound men's soccer squad got two first half goals from freshman
Bobby Adkins, but it was not enough as Southern Indiana scored four second half goals of their own and topped the Hounds 4-2 in GLVC action on Friday night
In a physical contest that featured 31 fouls and four cards, UIndy captured the early lead after a goal in the 28th minute by Adkins in which he collected a rebound off the foot of senior
Cory Barber and put it in the back of the net.
Adkins would strike again in the 42nd minute, scoring his fifth goal of the season and giving the Hounds a 2-0 lead at the half. UIndy outshot the Screaming Eagles 7-5 and held a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal after the opening half.
USI (1-2-0, 1-1-0 GLVC) cut the lead in half after Daniel Heltsley headed a ball into the back of the goal from a corner kick by Justin Fox. The Screaming Eagles would add the equalizer just two minutes later on a goal by Jeff McClure that was once again assisted by Fox.
Southern Indiana would go ahead for good in the 85th minute after a breakaway goal by Simon Rawnsley that would give them a 3-2 lead late on the contest.
Rawnsley would then put the game out of reach on by notching his second goal of the match in the 89th minute and making the final tally 4-2 in favor of the host Eagles.
USI outshot the Greyhounds 12-3 in the final 45 minutes and earned nine corner kicks to UIndy's one for the match.
After the loss, Indianapolis now stands at 2-1-2 and 0-1-1 in GLVC play. The Hounds will return to action on Sunday afternoon when they take on Kentucky Wesleyan in Owensboro, Ky. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 PM.
