FLORENCE, Ala.- The 20th-ranked University of Indianapolis volleyball team upped its record to 9-0 Saturday with two wins at the 2009 North Alabama Classic.  The Greyhounds dropped just one of 13 sets played at the event, included sweeps against Christian Brothers (5-3) and No. 13 Truman State (5-3) at Flowers Hall today.

MATCH 1
Saturday's morning match versus Christian Brothers was a lopsided affair.  The Greyhounds dominated nearly every statistical category, including out-hitting CBU .318 to -.042.  It marked the first time the Hounds held a non-conference opponent to a negative hitting percentage since Missouri Western State hit -.091 back on 9/1/07.

The Lady Bucs (5-3) – members of the Gulf South Conference – led midway through the first at 15-14, but a Courtney Anglemyer swing found the floor to tie it.  Anglemyer then took her service turn and led the Hounds to five more unanswered points to put UIndy up 20-15.  Indianapolis hit .371 during the set and went on to take it 25-19.

Down 2-0 in the second, the Hounds orchestrated an impressive 18-1 run to all but clinch the set.  Twelve of the points came off the serve of Kara McCarthy, including three aces from the sophomore.

The Greyhounds never trailed in the third and final frame, with a 13-12 score representing the smallest margin just prior to a 7-0 rally for UIndy.

Match highs attained by the Hounds included 10 kills from Kristina Kerrigan, 34 assists from Cheneta Morrison, nine digs from both Morrison and Kyleigh Turner, and career-high six total blocks by Hannah Kelzer.

MATCH 2
The Greyounds' evening match versus the Truman State Bulldogs was the marquee match-up of the event as the only contest to feature two ranked teams.  Indianapolis limited the Bulldogs, who advanced all the way to the Final Four last season, to sub-.200 hitting in each set.

With a 1-0 lead heading into the second set, the Hounds quickly went down 6-1.  Truman maintained its five-point edge at 12-7, but an 11-3 run gave UIndy control and forced a Bulldog timeout.

Out of the stoppage, the lead held as a 25-20 win put the Hounds one win away from its fourth sweep of the season.

Down 7-6 in the third, UIndy again managed a key rally, scoring 14 of the next 20 points.  The Hounds went on to compile a match-high .316 team hitting in the clinching 25-21 third-set win.

Lyndsay Callahan went for 10 kills and 11 digs in the win, including a .345 hitting percentage.  Turner amassed 19 digs, Morrison had 32 assists, and Kelzer added seven kills while hitting .467.

During the Truman win, a second career milestone was reached by a Greyhound at the invite.  With Turner reaching the 2,000-dig plateau yesterday, junior hitter Callahan became the 11th Greyhound to surpass 1,000 digs in a career.  Callahan's total of 17 digs on the day moved her within two of taken sole possession of 10th place in the all-time Greyhound annals.  The forthcoming two scoops would make her one of only three players to appear in the top 10 on both the school's career kills and career digs lists.

UIndy looks to tie the program record for most wins to start a season next week.  The Hounds' 2009 home opener comes Tuesday, Sep. 8 versus Indiana Tech, with action from the Ruth Lilly Center starting at 7 p.m.

Note: Indianapolis' 1999 squad holds the program record for most wins without a loss, as that team went 10-0 before dropping its first match.
