FLORENCE, Ala. - The UIndy softball team wrapped up their weekend trip to Alabama with a pair of losses to top-ranked Alabama-Huntsville on Sunday.  The Chargers topped the Greyhounds 10-3 in the opener before taking the nightcap 4-1.

GAME 1
The fifth-ranked Greyhounds wasted no time getting on the board in the opening game, plating a run in their first at bat.  Jamie Keltz led off the bottom of the first with a single to get things started for Indianapolis and came around to score when Jennifer DeMotte followed with an RBI double.

DeMotte would be left stranted at second base, but the Hounds would take a 1-0 lead after one.

Alabama-Huntsville responded in a big way as the Charger bats produced five runs on five hits in the top of the third, three of them coming on a three-run homer to center by Beth Lawson.

Leading 5-1 after three, the UAH offense added five more in the top of the fourth, chasing UIndy starter Megan Russell after 3.1 innings.

Audry Ernst replaced Russell in the circle and limited the potent Alabama-Huntsville offense to just five hits and two unearned runs in the remaning 3.2 innings.

Indianapolis added two more runs in the fifth on another DeMotte double to left center, her fifth extra-base hit of her freshman campaign.  Keltz and Kelsey Rummel came around to score on the hit to make the score, and eventual final margin, 10-3.

Russell fell to 3-3 on the year after taking the loss and being saddled with eight runs in her 3.1 innings of work.

GAME 2
The Charger offense remained hot as they wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the final weekend jumping out to a 3-0 lead after three innings.

UAH scored on a solo homerun in the bottom of the second by Whitney Hawkins and tacked on two more in their half of the third as Hawkins added another RBI.

UIndy trimmed the Alabama-Huntsville lead to 3-1, taking advantage of a UAH error.  Lead-off hitter Carmen Martinez reached on a fielding error and later scored after an Ernst single, her first RBI as a Greyhound.

The Chargers added an insurance run in the bottom half of the fifth and secured a 4-1 victory after ending a potential UIndy rally in the top of the seventh.  Brooke Johnson delivered a two-out double for the Hounds, followed by an Ernst walk to bring the tying run to the plate, but the game would end after Rummel flied out to left.

DeMotte tossed six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, and striking out seven in defeat as her record fell to 0-3 on the season.  Whitney Gilbert earned the win for UAH, allowing just four hits in 6.2 innings.

The Greyhounds now stand at 3-7 on the year and will look to snap their three game losing streak when they open conference play on Friday (Mar. 5) by hosting Quincy University.  The first pitch is slated for 12:00 PM.
