ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Greyhound softball team completed its weekend with a pair of splits as UIndy traded wins in doubleheader action at the UMSL Softball Field on Saturday afternoon.  The Tritons took the opener 3-1, before the Hounds rebounded with a 9-3 victory in the nightcap.

Game 1
Ashley Boxley and Carmen Martinez finished with two-hit performances and provided four of the Greyhound's six hits.  The Hounds outhit the Tritons by a six to four margin, but stranded seven baserunners in the 3-1 loss.

UIndy was unable to take advantage of a Boxley single followed by a Martinez double in the top half of the second, as UMSL starter Amanda Seib stranded both runners in scoring position after three straight fly outs to end the threat.

Megan Russell, who started in the circle for the Hounds, helped her own cause in the top of the third by driving in Jamie Keltz to give UIndy a 1-0 lead after three innings.

The host Tritons responded in the fourth, evening the score with after a pair of doubles, before taking a 3-1 lead in the bottom half of the fifth on a Heather Arras triple.

The Greyhounds saw a golden opportunity go for not in the top of the sixth after the first three batters of the inning reached to fill the bases with no outs.  However, UIndy was unable to push any of the runners across after a pair of pop outs and a strikeout to end the inning.

Russell pitched her way out of trouble in the bottom of the frame after a Greyhound error and kept the UMSL lead at two, but Indianapolis would go quiety in the seventh and the Tritons claimed the victory.

Russell fell to 10-5 on the season after allowing three earned runs on three hits and striking out nine.

Game 2
The UIndy offense came alive in the nightcap, as the Hounds pounded out 11 hits on their way to a 9-3 win.

Martinez led the way for the guests, finishing 3-for-5 at the plate with a home run and 3 RBI.  Jennifer DeMotte added a pair of hits, including a double, and grabbed the pitching victory.

Indianapolis wasted no time getting on the board, as Boxley smashed her first homer of the year to score DeMotte and give the Greyhounds the early 2-0 lead.

The Tritons evened the score at 2-2 in their half of the third, but UIndy regained the advantage in the fifth on a Martinez single that allowed Kelsey Rummel to touch the plate.

UIndy added more than enough insurance runs in the top of seventh with a six-run outburst on five hits.  DeMotte started the inning with a single through the right side of the infield and scored when Martinez followed with a two-run blast to left center.

Crissy Stephens continued the rally with a single and later scored on a throwing error following a 2 RBI fielder's choice by Hannah Atkinson.  Rummel added to the lead with a sacrifice fly that scored Brooke Johnson and Jamie Keltz capped the inning with an RBI single that scored Atkinson.

The Tritons added a lone run in the bottom half of the inning, but it was not nearly enough as DeMotte earned her eighth win in the circle and improved to 8-4 on the year following a five-hit, eight strikeout performance.

UIndy now stands at 19-10 on the season and 11-3 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.  The Greyhounds will return home next Saturday (Apr. 3) when they host Lewis University for a 1:00 PM doubleheader.
