ON TAP: UIndy is making its second-consecutive GLVC Men's Soccer Championships appearance in 2011. The Greyhounds, the tournament's #3 seed, face off in a first-round match against #6 seed Bellarmine at Key Stadium in a 2:30 p.m. contest Sunday.
UINDY V. BELLARMINE: UIndy hosted Bellarmine Oct. 7 in regular season action. The Greyhounds took a 1-0 win in the contest to extend a program-best eight-game winning strea with the victory. The Knights hold the overall series lead, 9-18-4, including this year's Greyhound regular-season win. UIndy and Bellarmine have been playing since 1981, the first year of the Greyhound soccer program. Click

ABOUT THE KNIGHTS: Bellarmine comes into the GLVC Tournament on a six-game unbeaten streak. The Greyhounds were the last team to hand the Knights a loss, on Oct. 7 of this year. Bellarmine's last victory came over #4 Northern Kentucky in a 1-0 double-overtime thriller Wednesday in Louisville.
The Knights currently lead the GLVC in total goals, points and goals per game on the season. Bellarmine also leads the circuit in corner kick chances, having been awarded 102 on the season.
GREYHOUNDS IN THE GLVC TOURNAMENT: The Greyhounds are making their 22nd GLVC Tournament appearance. Last season was UIndy's best-ever showing in the postseason event, with the Greyhounds shaking the bracket by advancing to their first-ever GLVC Championship match as the tournament's #8 seed. The Greyhounds fell to eventual NCAA Division II National Champion Northern Kentucky in the GLVC final a year ago.
UIndy is 5-23-1 all-time in GLVC Tournament play, dating back to 1981. The Greyhounds are 0-4 against Bellarmine in conference championship play. The last time the two teams met was in the first round of the 1994 GLVC Tournament, with the Knights taking a 5-1 win over UIndy. Bellarmine went on to take third place in the bracket that season.
LAST TIME OUT: UIndy is coming off of a 2-1 win over Saint Joseph's to close out the regular season Oct. 26.
Ryan Barnett scored in the 35th minute, with
Casey Castle tallying the gamewinner in the 65th minute to lead UIndy to the win.
Andrew Verhonik recorded two saves in the victory in the Greyhound net.
KEY STADIUM'S FRIENDLY CONFINES: UIndy is 7-2-0 on its home field this season, including a stretch of six-straight Key Stadium wins during the year. The Greyhounds dropped decisions to Missouri S&T and Drury during the weekend of Oct. 14-16 to take their only home losses of the season. UIndy has already defeated Bellarmine on the Key Stadium turf this season.
STREAKING GREYHOUNDS: The 2011 UIndy men's soccer team notched a new program-best win streak on the year, winning nine contests between Sept. 9 and Oct. 9. The winning streak started with the Greyhounds besting Wisconsin-Parkside 1-0 at Key Stadium, and ended with Missouri S&T upsetting the then-#19 Greyhounds 2-0 in GLVC play at Key Stadium Oct. 14. All nine consecutive wins were in GLVC play, also a record for UIndy. The Greyhounds had previously won eight in a row, during the 2010 season.

HIGGINS IS A WINNER: In just two years at the helm of the UIndy men's soccer program, former Greyhound athlete John Higgins has amassed a record of 22-13, good for a win percentage of .629. Higgins' winning percentage is the best of any UIndy men's soccer coach in the program's history, and he is also the only Greyhound men's soccer coach to take his team to a GLVC Championship match. Prior to becoming the team's head man, Higgins was an assistant coach on former UIndy head coach John Griffin's staff for the 2009 season. Higgins played for Griffin from 2005-2008.
GREYHOUNDS IN THE RANKINGS: The UIndy men's soccer team acheived its highest ever NSCAA Top 25 ranking this season, coming in at #19 in the Oct. 11 version of the weekly poll. This week, UIndy is receiving votes in the NSCAA Top 25.
UPSETTING THE RANKINGS: Prior to being ranked themselves, the Greyhounds played the role of the ranking upsetter. UIndy bested a pair of nationally-ranked foes this season, in then-#24 Quincy with a 2-0 decision Sept. 25 and then-#4 Northern Kentucky with a 1-0 double-overtime victory Oct. 9.
