Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS- The Greyhound men's soccer team fought to a 2-2 tie with Bellarmine in the first round of GLVC  Men's Soccer Championship play Sunday at Key Stadium, with the #6 seed Knights advancing past #3 seeded UIndy on penalty kicks, 4-2.

The visiting Knights (10-6-2) got on the board in the 24th minute, with Conner Brehm scoring his seventh goal of the year. Brehm took a long cross into the box from the near side from John Cantrell and chipped it past the UIndy (12-5-1) keeper from close range.

Micah Uemura's third goal of the season tied the match in the 72nd minute. Uemura scored at close-range in a crowded box through the center of the net to knot the match at 1-1.

Bellarmine re-claimed the lead just five minutes later, with Pat Macauley scoring off of a Dan Schiavi corner kick.

Ryan Schmidt tied the match in the 88th minute, on a header past the Knight keeper. Schmidt headed home a ball sent in the box on a free kick by Corey Nelson for his second goal of the year.

The Greyhounds nearly took the win in regulation, with Ryan Schmidt bouncing a ball off the far post on a one-on-one chance against the Bellarmine keeper with 25 seconds to play.

Casey Castle nearly won it for UIndy at the 92:01 mark, sending a chance wide of the net on a one-on-one breakaway to the net.

An offsides call in the 98th minute erased a would-be gamewinner by the Knights, with the game remaining tied through the second overtime.

The match went into a shootout, with Bellarmine advancing on a 4-2 penalty kick decision. The Knights' Blake Hunter made two saves in the shootout to ensure the Bellarmine advancement.

UIndy outshot the visiting Knights 22-10 in the match. Andrew Verhonik made four saves in the Greyhound net.
