Greyhound track and field travels to three events

CHARLESTON, Ill./GREENCASTLE, Ind./WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.- The Greyhound track and field squads competed at three different meets this weekend, with a group attending Eastern Illinois' Friday Night Special, another group at Purdue's Boilermaker Invitational and another at DePauw's Indoor Invitational.

The Greyhound men posted a few NCAA provisional marks at the Boilermaker Invitational, with Matt Royer winning the men's weight throw with a toss of 20.25, good for another NCAA automatic qualifying mark.

Ryan Smith threw an NCAA provisonal mark in the event, with a throw of 18.87 meters. Smith and Royer also threw provisional marks in the shot put, with Smith hitting a mark of 16.40 meters, while Royer threw a 15.96 meters.

Camille Edwards came up with her first NCAA time of the year, in taking second in the 60-meter hurdles. Edwards' time of 8.95 hit the NCAA provisional mark on the head.

Robert Gardner and Jerel Flournoy both put up additional NCAA provisional times in the 200-meter dash, with Gardner taking second in the race wit ha time of 22.10 and Flournoy third with a time of 22.19.

At Eastern Illinois, the UIndy women's 4x400 meter relay squad of Jourdin Heinrichs, Jordan VanDyke, LaTisha Martin and Haley Miller took first in its event, posting a time of 3:59.73. Martin also took second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.55.

At DePauw, Jacob Aldrich took second in the men's poll vault with a leap of 54.60 meters to highlight the small contingent of Greyhound jumpers at the event.

UIndy will travel to Wisconsin-Parkside for the GLVC Indoor Track and Field Championships next weekend.
