Track and Field sweeps Little State meet

MARION, Ind.- Both the men's and women's track and field squads took first of 12 participating teams at the 2012 Little State meet at Indiana Wesleyan Friday and Saturday.

The team win was the fourth in a row at the Little State meet for the Greyhound men, while the UIndy women won their fourth title in the last five years.

For the UIndy women, LaTisha Martin won the 400-meter dash with an NCAA provisional time of 56.27. The Greyhounds' 4x100-meter relay squad of Martin, Camille Edwards, Kenya Owens and Angelique McNeal also took their event, winning with a time of 47.62

On the men's side, Jerel Flournoy took the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 21.42, just making an NCAA provisional mark. Flournoy also posted a provisional time in the 400-meter event, winning with a time of 47.10. Flournoy's prelim time of 21.13 in the prelims of the 200-meter race established a new UIndy record.

Jermel Kindred also won the 400-meter hurdles, in a time of 52.30, also good for an NCAA provisional mark. Jacob Aldrich won the men's pole vault with a leap of 4.65 meters.

Matt Royer took both the men's hammer throw and shot put. Royer put up and NCAA mark in the Shot with a 17.66 meter toss, while he threw his first NCAA Automatic Qualifying mark of the outdoor season with a throw of 65.72 meters to win the men's hammer throw. Ryan Smith took second in both events, with NCAA provisional marks in both events. Smith threw a mark of 17.39 meters in the shot put, and a mark of 60.58 meters in the hammer throw.

The Greyhound women won the meet with a total score of 194.66, with Indiana Wesleyan taking second with 134 points. UIndy's men won with 169 points, while IWU's men also took second with 163 total points.

Next up for the Greyhounds is trips to the Tom Jones Memorial Classic and the Bellarmine Classic next weekend.
