THURSDAY
Matt Royer and Ryan Smith opened competition at the meet for the Greyhounds, in the men's hammer throw. Both UIndy competitors duplicated their performances in the weight throw from the indoor season, with Royer taking second and Smith taking fifth.
Royer's second-place finish is the third All-American honor of his UIndy career. The senior took runner-up in the event with a throw of 65.29 meters. Smith's fifth-place honor is also his third All-American finish as a Greyhound. The junior had a best toss of 63.38 meters to finish fifth.
Randall Hudi rounded out the All-American trio on Thursday, taking sixth in the long jump. The junior took a leap of 7.51 meters to earn the first All-American honor of his career. Jerel Flournoy also competed in the long jump, taking 11th with a mark of 7.22 meters.
In preliminary action in the men's 400-meter dash, Robert Gardner and Flournoy both missed the final race cut. Gardner took 11th with a time of 47.40, while Flournoy took 16th with a time of 48.47. The top nine advance to Friday's 400-meter final.
Jermel Kindred was also in action in a preliminary race, the men's 400-meter hurdles. The Greyhound junior placed fourth overall in the two prelim heats with a time of 51.89, putting him in the final race of the event Saturday night.
FRIDAY
The only Greyhounds in action Friday were Gardner, Kindred, Flournoy and Kyle Schwartz as the UIndy 4x400-meter relay squad. The team took second in its heat and third overall in the 12-team field with a time of 3:09.50, good to send the Greyhounds to Saturday night's final. The time is the fastest put up by the UIndy squad thus far on the year, and established a new school record.
SATURDAY
All-American honors were earned in two more events by the Greyhounds Saturday. Kindred took fourth place in the 400-meter hurdles, with a personal best of 51.65 to earn the first UIndy podium finish on the day.
Earlier in the day, both Royer and Smith competed in the shot put. Smith took 10th in the field with a toss of 16.59 meters, while Royer was just behind in 11th with a throw of 16.58 meters.
Kindred then joined Gardner, Flournoy and Kyle Schwartz to take fourth in the 4x400-meter relay. The UIndy squad came in with a time of 3:10.72 to close out the meet.
The Greyhounds took 11th of 56 total scoring teams in the meet with 25 points. Adams State took the 2012 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championship with 77 total points in the meet.
