Men's Soccer tops Bellarmine, 3-1

INDIANAPOLIS- UIndy men's soccer opened a four-game homestretch in winning fashion, taking a 3-1 decision over visiting Bellarmine at Key Stadium in GLVC action Friday evening.

Ngwese Ebangwese put the Greyhounds (7-2-2; 6-1-2 GLVC) up 1-0 just 30 seconds into the match, notching his sixth goal of the year on an assist from Casey Zimmerman. The visiting Knights (6-3-2; 4-3-2 GLVC) answered back in the 11th minute, with Connor Brehm knotting the match 1-1.

Neither team would break the tie through the half. A foul on Ebangwese just outside the box in the 68th minute resulted in a free kick for the Greyhounds, which was sent in perfectly over Knight keeper to give UIndy back the lead, 2-1.

It was again Ebangwese who provided the Greyhounds with an insurance goal in the 82nd minute. The junior transfer took a rebound of a Kevin Eggert shot and put it away to run the score to 3-1 in favor of UIndy.

Eggert's four shots led the Greyhounds, while Ebangwese had three on the night. Andrew Verhonik made six saves in goal.

Next up for the Hounds is s Sunday matchup with McKendree. UIndy and the Bearcats square off at 2:30 Sunday afternoon.
