INDIANAPOLIS- In a matchup of two of the top five teams in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings, the UIndy men's soccer team came out on top of visiting Drury, 3-1 in Senior Day action from Key Stadium Sunday.
It was again
Ngwese Ebangwese finding the back of the net early, with the junior putting away his GLVC-leading 11th goal of the year just before the 10-minute mark. Ebangwese scored across the front of the goal into the lower far corner, on a long pass from
Matt Franco.
UIndy (10-2-2; 9-1-2 GLVC) would make the score 2-0 in the 26th minute, with
Brendon Widau scoring on a header off of a corner kick from
Roger Lee. The goal was good for the sophomore's second of the year. UIndy and Drury (11-4-0; 8-4-0 GLVC) headed to the halftime break with the Hounds in control, 2-0.
Reid Strain pushed the lead to 3-0 just less than four minutes into the second period, taking a ball off of a Drury defender in front of the goal and converting it past the Panther keeper. Drury would tally its lone goal just past the 82nd minute, with Matt Clarkin scoring his first goal of the season with UIndy keeper
Andrew Verhonik pulled aeway from the net.
Ebangwese and Strain each had a pair of shots in the match for UIndy, while Verhonik made a pair of saves on the afternoon.
The Greyhounds, now winners of six straight, will make their longest trip of the year for the final GLVC weekend of the regular season, heading to #8 Rockhurst and William Jewell for a Friday/Sunday series.
