INDIANAPOLIS- With Quincy defeating Truman State in the final match of the 2013 Great Lakes Valley Conference men's soccer regular season Thursday night, the UIndy men's soccer team will be the #2 seed in the 2013 GLVC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament.Â
The Greyhounds (13-2-2; 12-1-2 GLVC), currently ranked #9 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Division II National Poll, will host seven-seed Bellarmine Sunday afternoon at 2:30 EST in the first round of the tournament. UIndy clinched a portion of the GLVC regular season title along with aformentioned Quincy, but due to a head-to-head loss to the Hawks Sept. 29, will be the #2 seed.
The QU loss is the last suffered by the Greyhounds, who are currently riding a nine-match win streak to go along with the most GLVC wins in program history. This will be UIndy's first trip to the GLVC Tournament since 2011, when the Bellarmine Knights were also the Greyhounds' first round opponent at Key Stadium. Bellarmine, the six-seed in the 2011 tournament, pulled out the upset that year, advancing on in the tournament via penalty kicks after a 2-2 tie.
Following Quincy and UIndy in the seeding are three-seed Lewis, #4 Rockhurst, #5 Missouri-St. Louis, #6 Drury the seven-seeded Knights and #8 Missouri S&T. Against the field, UIndy is a total 5-1-1 on the season, with the loss coming to Quincy and the tie coming in the GLVC opener on the season at Lewis. The winner of the UIndy/BU match will face off with the winner of Lewis/Drury in GLVC Tournament semi-final action at the location of the field's highest-remaining seed Nov. 8. The championship match will be played Nov. 10.
UIndy and Bellarmine will kick at 2:30 p.m. EST Sunday from Key Stadium. Reminder to fans that Daylight Savings Time goes into effect at 2:00 a.m. Sunday.
