ABOUT HILLSDALE
Coming off a convincing 41-16 win at Malone last Saturday, the Chargers carry a 1-2 record into play this week. Hillsdale opened its season at home with a 22-19 loss to California (Pa.), then fell, 37-20, in a conference game at Ohio Dominican.
Hillsdale compiled a 7-4 record last season, with its 7-3 GLIAC mark good for a share of the North Division title. The Chargers won the GLIAC championship outright in 2011 and last made the NCAA playoffs in 2010.

COACH TO CURE MD
For the sixth year in a row, college football coaches nationwide will join together in support of the Coach To Cure MD program. The staffs of both UIndy and Hillsdale will be participating this week in the rapidly growing annual effort has raised more than a million dollars to battle Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
This Saturday, American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) members from all over the country will wear a Coach To Cure MD logo patch on the sidelines, and college football fans will be asked to donate to research projects supported by Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD), the largest nonprofit organization in the U.S. focused entirely on Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Fans can donate to Duchenne muscular dystrophy research at www.CoachtoCureMD.org or by texting the word CURE to 90999 (a $5 donation will automatically be added to your next phone bill).
GREYHOUNDS vs. CHARGERS
As former league mates in the GLIAC, Hillsdale and UIndy played each other every year from 1988 to 2009. Though the Chargers own a 15-11 all-time advantage, the Hounds have won nine of the previous 13 meetings.
The last time they faced off was week four of the 2009 season. The Chargers blanked UIndy in a
23-0 home win, marking to last time the Greyhounds were shut out. Then-true-freshman
Joumeel McLaurine (one carry for one yard) is the only current Greyhound to play in the game.
INTERCEPT COURSE
In his first season as a starting quarterback, Hillsdale senior Sam Landry has yet to throw an interception this season. Fifty-eight of his 100 passes have been caught this year, all by players wearing blue and white.
Meanwhile, the UIndy defense has averaged two interceptions per game on the young season. Six different Greyhound defenders have combined to pick off six passes by opposing QBs.
LAST TIME OUT
UIndy endured its first loss of the season in a
31-14 final at Division I Drake last week. The Greyhounds jumped out to a 7-0 lead on a 22-yard TD pass to
Greg Johnson, but the Bulldogs scored 31 points unanswered points to pull away. Drake did most of its damage in the second half, as the home team out-gained the Hounds 271 to 124 in final 30 minutes. Â
As Drake was not a D-II opponent, the result will not have any NCAA playoff implications for the Hounds.
FOR STARTERS
Though they missed a chance at their first 3-0 start in 10 years, the Greyhounds look to become the first UIndy football squad to start 3-1 since 2007 -- a team that won five of its first six contests.
LIKE A BROKEN RECORD
Records continue to fall for UIndy senior quarterback
Chris Mills. After finishing 23-for-35 for 278 yards and two touchdowns last week, the Lafayette, Ind., native became the new program leader in career completions. Already the school's record holder for career TD passes, he enters the weekend needing just 80 passing yards to break another UIndy career mark.
A HOUSE DIVIDED?
The Mills family's rooting interest may be split this week, as brothers Chris and Timmy will be on opposite sidelines. Older-brother Chris will of course be taking snaps as UIndy's starting quarterback, while Timmy is a true freshman at Hillsdale battling for time at wide receiver.
Both Mills brothers won state championships at Central Catholic High School, with Chris winning in 2009, and Timmy contributing to three straight state champions from 2010-12.
MORE MILESTONES
Senior
Klay Fiechter is also on track to pass or equal a few milestones. The Bluffton, Ind., native needs only10 rushing yards to become just the fourth Greyhound to reach 3,000 in his career. He also needs a one rushing touchdown to tie Jim Ware's 51-year-old school record of 30 career rushing TDs.
POLL POSITION
After reaching a program-record high of 12th last week, UIndy dropped 10 spots to No. 22 in the most recent
AFCA Division II Top 25 Poll. Nevertheless, the Greyhounds have remained in the coaches' poll for seven consecutive weeks, dating back to last season.
MOVE THE CHAINS
UIndy ranks 12th in the nation in 3rd down conversion rate. The Greyhounds have made good on exactly half (21 for 42) of their 3rd-down attempts through three weeks. The Hounds have not finished a season with a success rate of at least 50 percent since 2002, the first year the stat is available.
HEY NINETEEN
Junior receiver
Greg Johnson had a career day at Drake last week as the Fort Wayne, Ind., product recorded career highs in receptions (8) and receiving yards (133). It marked the second consecutive 100-yard game for the vetern wideout. He has also scored a touchdown in each of the last two games, including a 22-yard TD catch late in the first half versus Drake.
PACKING ON THE LBs
Linebacker
Derrick Bryant is making quite an impressive in his first season on the collegiate gridiron. The redshirt freshman out of South Holland, Ill., leads the GLVC with an average of 11.7 tackles per game. Senior LB
Todd Hacker also ranks highly in the conference, as his 10.3 tackles per game are good for third.
STAY CLASSY
With 25 victories to its credit, this year's senior class needs four more wins to set a new school record for wins in a four-year period. The current mark of 28 is shared by the 1983-86 and the 1984-87 groups. Three other classes have won 27 games in four consecutive years, including last year's senior class.
KINGS OF THE HILL
Quick. What Division II football team has the most former Harlon Hill Award candidates on its 2013 roster? Answer: The University of Indianapolis.
With quarterback
Chris Mills (HH candidate in 2011) and running back
Klay Fiechter (2012) entering their senior seasons for the Hounds, UIndy is the only football team in the nation to have more than one former candidate for the Harlon Hill, awarded annually to the country's top D-II player, on its active roster.
