SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – After weather postponed yesterday's scheduled doubleheader Drury, the UIndy softball team (10-6, 3-1 GLVC) split the rescheduled contests Monday afternoon.  The Greyhounds fell, 2-1, in game one before routing the Panthers, 14-4, in the capper.

GAME 1
Starter Morgan Foley was nearly untouchable for five of the six innings, but a sloppy fourth trumped an otherwise stellar performance.  After sitting down the first nine batters of the game – all via strikeout, the Panthers (5-15, 2-4) led off the fourth frame with a single and went on the coax three walks and a hit batsman to plated two runs.

Foley found the grove again, fanning the next three batters and six of the final nine to finish with 15 Ks on the day.  The damage was done, however, as the Greyhounds hitters managed just one run of support to pin the loss on Foley (5-4).

Drury's productive fourth inning snapped a 22-inning scoreless streak by Foley.  She has five straight outings with at least 11 strikeouts, including a whopping 32 in the last 13 innings of work.

No. 8-hitter Cori Eckerle provided the pop for the Hounds, hitting her first homerun of the year in the fifth.  Later, fellow-senior Alexa Alfaro roped a seventh-inning double to put the tying run in scoring position but was eventually stranded at third.

GAME 2 (5 inn.)
The Greyhounds exploded for 14 runs in the abbreviated second game.  UIndy scored in four of the five innings, including 11 tallies in the fourth and fifth frames combined.  Twenty Hounds stepped to the plate in the final two innings, with senior Krysta Bradford reaching safely three times in that span.

Junior Taylor Russell had a solo homerun and a two-run single in the game, while Alfaro drove in three runs with a pair of doubles.  Sophomore Jenny Thompson amassed three singles, and junior Sydney Russell scored three times.

Starting pitcher Morgan Lewis lasted just 2 1/3 innings in the circle.  A couple errors conspired against her in the first inning, leading to four Panther runs.  She struck out the side in the second and K'd the leadoff hitter in the third, but another fielding error and two walks ended her day.

Foley (6-4) came on to strike out back-to-back batters to get out of the inning unscathed.  She went on the pitch two more scoreless innings with garner the win.

UIndy travels to Southern Indiana and Bellarmine next weekend.  The doubleheader at USI is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 22 at 1 p.m. ET.
