Box Score 2 RENSSELAER, Ind. – The UIndy softball team (19-7, 12-2 GLVC) upped its winning streak to six with a pair of division wins at Saint Joseph's Tuesday evening. The Greyhounds topped the host Pumas 12-3 and 6-2, as every UIndy batter garnering at least one hit.
The bottom third of the Greyhounds lineup came up big, delivering 10 of the team's 23 hits. The freshman duo of
Katie Kelly and
Tayler Weck combined to go 8-for-13 (.615) with four RBI on the day.
GAME 1 (5 inn.)
The Hounds scored multiple runs in each of the final four innings, including five tallies in the second. Fourth consecutive singles fueled the second-inning rally.
Later, junior
Taylor Russell delivered a solo homer in the third, while twin sister
Sydney Russell had a two-run double in the fifth.
Sophomore pitcher
Morgan Foley garnered the win after allowing just one run in four innings while striking out eight and walking none.
GAME 2Foley (14-4) got the start again in game two, this time going the distance for the win. The Louisville, Ky., product gave up a two-run homer in the first but shut out the Pumas (11-15, 8-8) the rest of the way. SJC managed the get the tying run to the plate with two outs in the seventh, but Foley ended the game with a harmless groundball to first.
Weck had a pair of hits with runners in scoring position, including a two-run single in the third and an RBI single in the seventh. Sophomore
Jenny Thompson, who had a double in game one, smacked her fourth home run of the season with a solo shot in the seventh.
UIndy goes out of conference but in-region tomorrow with a doubleheader at Ohio Dominican starting at 3 p.m. ET.
