Box Score 2 URBANA, Ohio – The No. 24 UIndy Greyhounds (31-7) ventured out of conference Wednesday to notch a pair of region wins at Urbana. With victories of 3-2 and 9-4, the sweep not only extended the Greyhounds' winning streak to 18, but also secured a seventh straight 30-win season for head coach
Melissa Frost and her program.
GAME 1UIndy held off the Blue Knights (21-13) for a slim one-run win in the opener. Down two heading into the bottom of the seventh, the home team plated one run and had runners at the corners with two outs before sophomore
Morgan Foley, the reigning GLVC Pitcher of the Week, slammed the door with her 11th and final strikeout of the game.
Foley (22-4) pitched around five hits and four walks to get the win, while only one of her two runs allowed were earned.
The Greyhound offense did its damaged in the fourth and fifth innings. Freshman
Katie Kelly and sophomore
Erika Goodwin provided the RBIs, with Goodwin's fourth-inning double scoring Kelly with the first run of the game before both players recorded RBI singles in the fifth.
Senior
Cori Eckerle and freshman Talyer Weck both scored a run, and junior
Casey Williamson had a single, a walk and two stolen bases.
GAME 2The Greyhounds found themselves in a 4-0 hole after three innings before exploding for nine runs in the top of the fourth. UIndy parlayed six hits, two Urbana errors and a walk into its highest-scoring inning in 17 games.
Sophomore
Jenny Thompson and junior
Taylor Russell each had two hits and two runs in the frame, including a leadoff double by Thompson and a two-run homer by Russell. The latter marked the 12th round-tripper for Russell on the season, tying her for the GLVC lead.
The fourth-inning flurry was all the Greyhounds needed, as Urbana did not score the rest of the way. In fact, the final margin may have been greater as UIndy was threatening again in the top of seventh before the game was called due to darkness.
Starting pitcher
Morgan Lewis lasted three innings and was charged with all four runs. Foley (23-4) took over in the top of the fourth and pitched three scoreless frames to earn the win.
The Greyhounds return home this weekend to host a pair of GLVC West teams. The action starts Friday at noon when No. 16 Truman (22-4, 11-3) looks to halt the Hounds' winning streak.
