INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 17 UIndy softball team (39-9, 28-4 GLVC) wrapped up the 2014 regular season with wins of 4-3 and 7-1 against visiting Southern Indiana Sunday.  Prior to the games, the Greyhounds honored seniors Alexa Alfaro, Krysta Bradford, Cori Eckerle and Morgan Lewis.  The quartet has helped UIndy to a stellar 179-40 (.817) since 2011, good for the most wins and highest winning percentage in any four-year period in program history.

GAME 1
The day started with a nail biter, as the Greyhounds won the game with two outs in their last at bat.  With the Hounds trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, junior Taylor Russell delivered her second walk-off hit in as many days with a game-winning two-run homer.

With two down and the bases clear, junior Casey Williamson kept the Hounds' hopes alive with a double, setting the stage for Russell.  The St. Charles, Ill., native stepped to the plate and fell behind 1-2 before tomahawking a high fastball over the left field netting for the win.

Earlier in the game, sophomore Jenny Thompson managed a solo shot to left for the game's first run, while  Eckerle pocketed an RBI with a fourth-inning single.

Sophomore Morgan Foley upped her record to 29-4 with a complete-game, 11-strikeout performance in the circle.  She kept the Screaming Eagles (22-23, 12-22) off the scoreboard in six of her seven innings of work, with a three-run third inning proving to be her only blemish.

In addition, the win was No. 29 for Foley, setting a new career high.

GAME 2
Starting pitcher Coryn Tirpak garnered the complete-game win in the capper.  The Monticello, Ind., native was one strike away from her first career shutout, but after getting ahead of USI's Grace Clark 1-2 with two outs in the seventh, Clark found the gap to drive in Teri Newmaster with the Eagles' lone run of the game.

Tirpak (2-1) scattered eight hits, while striking out five and walking only one.

UIndy's scoring starting in the third on a Taylor Russell sac fly.  A single and two stolen bases put Katie Kelly at third base before Russell lifted a 2-0 pitch to center field, allowing Kelly to cruise home.

An inning later, Krysta Bradford tacked on another tally with a solo home run.  The senior connected on the first pitch of the at bat and deposited it onto National Avenue.  It was first the round tripper of the year for the Festus, Mo., native and fifth of her career.

Still in the fourth, Russell followed with a laser to the center field fence, scoring Erika Goodwin with a double. Thompson added an RBI single in the very next at bat to extend the lead to four.

Goodwin's two-run knock in the fifth all but put the game away.  Pinch runner Jessica Vleck capped the scoring by coming home on errant throw to second base in the sixth inning.

UIndy's two wins clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.  The eight-team, double-elimination conference championship will be held May 2-4 in Peoria, Ill.  The Greyhounds open the tourney versus No. 8-seed Rockhrust (21-27) Friday ay 11 a.m. ET.  Click here to view the complete bracket.

Last season, the Hounds advanced to the GLVC semifinals after winning the league crown in 2012.
