Men's golf captures GLVC title, three Hounds all-conference

CARMEL, Ind. – Competing through 90 holes over three days, the UIndy men's golf team completed an impressive title-winning run at the 2018 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships Tuesday, securing a record 16th GLVC crown. The 14-team event was hosted at Prairie View Golf in Carmel, Ind.

After earning the top seed through 54 holes of stroke play, the Hounds captured the conference championship with two successful match-play rounds Tuesday. UIndy edged No. 4-seed Missouri-St. Louis, 3-2, in the morning semifinal before dispatching two-seeded Maryville, 4-0-1, in the final.

Last winning the league championship in 2014, the Hounds did not lose a match Tuesday afternoon, squaring one and winning the remaining four by an average of more than six strokes per match. Three Greyhounds shot below par in the finals, including freshman Ian Carroll (-1), sophomore Erik Edwards (-1) and senior and GLVC-medalist Graham McAree (-3).

MONDAY
Senior Graham McAree fired a six-under 66 in the third and final round of stroke play at the 2018 GLVC Men's Golf Championships Monday, overcoming a five-stroke deficit to capture his second career GLVC medalist honor. One of three Greyhounds to garner All-GLVC honors, McAree concluded his round in spectacular fashion, holing out on 18 for a birdie to help advance to Greyhounds to Tuesday's medal/match play semifinal. The three-day event is being held at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.

McAree last won the GLVC individual crown as a sophomore in 2016. In both that season and in the present, the Fishers, Ind., trailed by five strokes heading into the final round and fired a final-round 66 to earn the win. He is now a four-time All-GLVC honoree.

McAree's score highlighted an all-around solid performance by the Greyhounds Monday. Entering the day tied with Bellarmine for the team lead, UIndy pulled away with a team score of -7 over the final 18 holes to secure the No. 1 seed for Tuesday's match play.

Joining McAree among the all-conference honorees were sophomore Erik Edwards (76-78-69) and
Spencer Klimek (74-76-73). The two shared fifth place in the 70-man field, with both securing their first career all-conference nod.

Freshman Ian Carroll (73-78-73) came one stroke shy of all-league accolades, finishing at +8 to tie for eighth. Fellow-rookie Oliver Mast (73-77-77) shared 15th place.
