EUREKA, Mo. – The UIndy men's golf team (
296-302-298) placed fourth among 17 teams at the 54-hole Midwest Regional at Fox Run, held in Eureka, Mo., Monday and Tuesday. The Greyhounds leapfrogged four rival schools over final 18 holes to secure a top-four spot.
"I was happy with how we came out with a little more urgency today," said Head Coach Brent Nicoson. "We didn't play very well yesterday so bouncing back today was much needed."
Senior
Erik Edwards continued his solid play this fall, sharing seventh place at +1. The Louisville, Ky., product carded scores of 71-71-75 to lead the Hounds for the fourth straight tournament. He currently owns a 71.6 scoring average for the season.
Returning to the lineup this week, junior
Ian Carroll (75-75-73) shared 15th place in the 90-man field. He was followed closely by senior
Spencer Klimek (72-78-76) in 23rd, while junior
Oliver Mast (78-78-77) and sophomore
Cam Carroll (79-80-74) shared 44th. Individual-competitor
Jacob Nickell (80-82-77) rounded out the Hounds' scoring in 62nd.
"Erik played another great tournament," noted Nicoson. "He's been solid all season and he kept us in it. Unfortunately we just didn't have enough other scores around par to be in serious contention today. I think the difference for us was putting; we missed too many inside six feet this week and that cost us."
Ultimately it was McKendree (
292-298-299) that topped the team leaderboard, edging Maryville by two strokes. Four players finished at -2 to share medalists honors, with Hillsdale's Josh Davenport winning the playoff.
