INDIANAPOLIS – After setting a record at the Hoosier Open last week, the Great Lakes Valley Conference awarded senior distance runner
Berenice Cleyet-Merle with the GLVC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award on Thursday. A transfer from Cal Baptist, Cleyet-Merle earns her first GLVC weekly honor and the second straight for the UIndy women's team. Fellow-distance-runner
Lauren Bailey garnered the honor last week.
Cleyet-Merle's new record from IU's Hoosier Open came in the mile, dropping the record by four seconds as she won the event as well on a time of 4:47.60. Cleyet-Merle's new mile time is just two and a half seconds shy of the NCAA DII Indoor women's automatic standard, inching closer to the possibility of being invited to the NCAA DII Indoor Track & Field Championships in March. Cleyet-Merle currently ranks second in Division II for the mile.
The Greyhounds will be back in action in less than a month, competing in the Jim Green Invitational. That meet will take place on Jan. 11 in Lexington, Ky.
