INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy track & field teams took home three of the possible four conference weekly awards, announced Wednesday. The Greyhounds swept the women's honors, with
Lauren Bailey voted the GLVC Track Athlete of the Week and
Katie Monk dubbed the GLVC Field Athlete of the Week. Meanwhile,
Austin Hogan was named the league's top performer among male field athletes.
Â
The Greyhound throwers had two chances to shine last week, including a Friday meet at IU and a Saturday home event. Monk bested all collegians in both the shot put and the weight throw at the latter meet, but it was her performance at IU that made history. The Churabusco, Ind., product unleashed a throw of 15.72 meters in the shot put, topping her own school record while moving up to fourth in the Division II rankings. She also ranks first in all of DII in the weight throw.
Â
On Saturday, Hogan busted out not one, but two personal records in the ARC. The Fishers, Ind., product hit for an even 18.00 meters in the shot put to up his provisional mark and take first place, then recorded a 20.11-meter toss in the weight throw to take first among collegian competitors. He also won the weight throw at IU a day earlier. Hogan now ranks eighth in DII in both events.
Â
On the track, Bailey was among a group of Hounds that competed at the Grand Valley State Big Meet Friday. The Westfield, Ind., native shattered her own school record in the 5000 meters. Her time of 16:55.44 bested the old mark by a full 10 seconds, as Bailey became the first-ever Greyhound woman to go sub-17 in the 5K. She now ranks 18th in DII in the event.
Â
All three Greyhounds picked up their second GLVC weekly honor of the season. Bailey now has two career awards, Monk can stake claim to eight career indoor weekly honors while Hogan's resume sports nine.
