INDIANAPOLIS –
Lauren Honkomp was voted the Great Lakes Valley Pitcher of the Week Monday, as announced by league officials. The junior hurler went 2-0 with a save in three appearances in the circle.
Â
Honkomp did not allow a single run all week, striking out 12 and walking only two in 10 2/3 innings. She started the week by tossing six scoreless frames in a region win versus Ferris State Friday, allowing just three hits – all singles – while racking up nine Ks against zero walks.
Â
A day later, Honkomp earned her first save of the season Saturday versus Northwood, escaping a one-out, bases-loaded situation in the seventh inning of a two-run game. She got the start in the very next game Saturday, pitching four scoreless frames to beat Tiffin.
Â
Monday's announcement brings Honkomp her first career GLVC weekly award. She is the second Greyhound to garner GLVC Pitcher of the Week honors this season, as sophomore teammate
Halie Waters got the nod back on Feb. 11.
