Men’s golf opens spring season in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – The UIndy men's golf team emerged from their winter hibernation this week with a trip to San Antonio for the 54-hole Saint Mary's University Rattler Invitational Monday and Tuesday. The Greyhounds (304-316-294) placed 15th in the talented field that included four top-25 teams.

Sophomore Oliver Mast led the way by sharing eighth place at +1, securing his fifth top-10 finish in six events this season. The Fortville, Ind., native fired a two-under 70 in Monday's opening round, sinking four straight birdies at one point, and followed that with a three-under 69 in the final round.

Junior Spencer Klimek carded a one-over 73 to cap his tournament, finishing at +3 for the event to tie for 46th. Sophomore Ian Carroll (+15) shared 55th, junior Erik Edwards (+22) finished 71st and freshman Cam Carroll (+28) placed 80th.

Host and 12th-ranked St. Mary's ran away with the team title, finishing 28 strokes ahead of runner-up Oklahoma Christian.  St. Mary's put three student-athletes in the top six, including medalist Emilio Gonzales (-6).
