PERRY, N.Y. - The UIndy men's lacrosse is off to a 5-0 start to begin the 2019 campaign, its fourth season as a program. With two top-10 wins under their belt thus far, including a win over Young Harris to open GLVC play this past weekend, the Greyhounds are ranked sixth in the latest USILA coaches poll that was released oin Monday morning. It is the second straight week the Hounds are sixth in the rankings.
The Hounds dropped from seventh to eighth in the latest US Lacrosse Magazine/Nike poll.
UIndy began conference action yesterday morning at Key Stadium with a 14-7 romp of defending GLVC regular-season champions, Young Harris. The Greyhounds scored five times in the second quarter to build an 8-3 halftime lead before fending off the Mountain Lions in the second half.
Parker Kump netted six goals himself, while freshman defender,
Erich Wiitala, caused five turnovers and scooped up five ground balls.
Kump leads the team with 20 points, including 17 goals.
Drew Billig has tallied 17 points, while
Matthew Johnson and
Shawn Kimble each have 14 apiece. Wiitala now leads the back line with 11 caused turnovers, and ranks first among defenders with 16 ground balls. Senior net-minder
Jarod Kimble has been solid, posting a .537 save percantage through 289 minutes.
The Greyhounds hit the road this weekend with a battle against No. 11 Belmont Abbey on Thursday at 3 p.m.
