PERRY, N.Y. - UIndy men's lacrosse players
Parker Kump and
Erich Wiitala were named to the 10-person USILA Team of the Week, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon. The senior-freshman duo are the first Greyhounds to earn recognition on the squad during the 2019 season.
Kump exploded for six goals in the win over Young Harris this past Sunday, leading the Hounds to a commanding 14-7 victory to open GLVC action. The senior attacker bookended the UIndy offensive attack, notching the first pair of scores for the Crimson and Grey before ending the day with his sixth netter. Kump also scooped up four ground balls in the win, matching a season-high against Lincoln Memorial on February 23.
Wiitala has been a force during his rookie season for the Greyhounds defensive unit, already totaling 16 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers in four games this season. On Sunday against Young Harris, the Louisville product contributed five of each in the defensive zone, including four caused turnovers in the first half. His five caused turnovers is the most for the freshman this season, while he also picked up five ground balls against Lincoln Memorial on February 23.
The sixth-ranked Greyhounds head to No. 11 Belmont Abbey on Thursday for a 3 p.m. contest in Belmont, N.C.
