LEXINGTON, Ky. – The UIndy men's golf team (281-295) competed in the massive Findlay Spring Invitational this week, held at the University Club of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky., Monday and Tuesday. Led by a pair of top-10 individual performances, the Greyhounds placed third at the 22-team, all-Midwest event.
The Hounds managed their best 18-hole team score of the spring Monday, combining for a seven-under 281 to lead after the opening round before a second-round 295 dropped them to third.
Sophomore
Oliver Mast (69-73) and junior
Erik Edwards (72-72) each notched top-10 finishes. Mast tied for third at -2 thanks in part to a first-round 69, while Edwards carded matching 72s to finish at even par and tie for ninth.
Like Mast, junior
Spencer Klimek (69-76) also fired a sub-70 score, as his first-round 69 helped him secure a share of 13th in the 120-man field. Freshman
Cam Carroll (71-76) finished at +3 for tie for 22nd, while his brother
Ian Carroll (79-74) tied for 61st.
Freshman
Jacob Nickell (74-82) competed as an individual, and after a solid opening round, fell back to 89th.
Grand Valley State (286-288) took the team title by a single stroke over Trevecca Nazarene, and GVSU's Mitchell White (69-70) secured medalist honors.
UP NEXT
UIndy will battle another host of Midwest Region opponents at the upcoming UW-Parkside Spring Invitational next week. The tournament will be held at Otter Creek Golf Course in nearby Columbus, Ind., March 31 and April 1.
