INDIANAPOLIS – As announced by league officials Thursday, the University of Indianapolis won both Great Lakes Valley Conference Golf Player of the Week awards, with junior
Pilar Echeverria taking the women's honors and sophomore
Oliver Mast garnering the men's. Both Greyhounds notched top-five finishes earlier this week.
Â
Echeverria carded scores of 72-69-68 to finish at -7 at the Barry U Invite Monday and Tuesday, matching her own school record for lowest 54-hole score (209). The Guatemala native took runner-up honors at the 90-golfer event, which featured 13 top-25 teams and six of the top 10. She earned her sixth top-five finish and eighth top-10 in eight events this season.
Â
The announcement nets Echeverria her 12th career weekly award from the GLVC, upping her own conference record.
Â
Meanwhile, Mast tied for third at the massive 120-man Findlay Spring Invitational Monday and Tuesday, carding scores of 69-73 to finish at -2. He led the Greyhounds to a third-place team finish at the 22-team, all-Midwest event. The performance was good for his second consecutive top-five placement and third of the season.
Â
A product of nearby Fortville, Ind., Mast collected his first career GLVC weekly laurels. His award marks the fourth GLVC Men's Golf Player of the Week nod for the Greyhounds this year.
