PITTSBURG, Kan. – The UIndy track & field teams concluded the 2019 NCAA DII Indoor Championships Saturday, with senior
Austin Hogan earning All-America accolades with a sixth-place finish in the shot put. The two-day meet was hosted at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kan.
Below is a concise summary of the Greyhounds' performances at Nationals.
Â
SATURDAY
Hogan capped off the indoor championships for the Hounds, finishing sixth in the shot put on Saturday evening. The senior recorded an 18.01-meter toss on his second attempt, finishing less than a half-meter from fourth place. The Indianapolis native was one of two seniors who earned All-America status in the event, the first honor in the shot put of his indoor career. The 18.01m mark also tops her previous career-best of 18.00m. Overall, it's Hogan's fifth All-American performance of his career and second at the indoor championships.Â
Katie Monk concluded her collegiate indoor career with her third appearance at the Indoor Nationals competing in the shot put. The Churabusco, Ind., product got off three solid throws, including a mark of 14.87 meters on her second toss. That put her in 11th place overall, missing the finals by just two spots.
FRIDAY
Hilary Paxson and Monk each picked up their first career outdoor All-America nod on the opening day. The honor was especially sweet for Monk, who placed ninth at last year's weight throw event – one spot from a podium finish. Both Greyhounds hit their longest mark within their first three throws, with Paxson hitting 20.53 meters, just ahead of Monk's 20.50. Paxson's toss was good for a PR, coming just short of Monk's school-record of 20.56 meters.
Â
Hogan also competed in the weight throw, placing 10th in the men's field. He too surpassed the 20-meter mark, tossing the weight 20.03 meters on his very first throw, but two straight faults followed, leaving him out of the finals.

Sophomore distance runner
Lauren Bailey was also in action Friday in her first career appearance at Nationals. The Westfield, Ind., native posted a time of 17:06.31 in the women's 5000 meters, good for 15th place among the Division II's best.
UP NEXT
With the indoor season in the books, the Greyhounds have a couple more weeks to prepare for the outdoor slate. It starts at the Wash U Invite in St. Louis on Friday, March 29.
