INDIANAPOLIS – With the outdoor season's first set of conference weekly honors announced Wednesday, the UIndy track & field teams took home three of the four awards handed out by the GLVC. The Greyhounds swept the women's accolades, with
Lauren Bailey voted the GLVC Track Athlete of the Week and
Katie Monk dubbed the GLVC Field Athlete of the Week. Meanwhile,
Austin Hogan was named the league's top performer among male field athletes.
Â
After setting a pair of individual school marks during the indoor season, Bailey nedded just one meet to etch her name in the UIndy outdoor annals. The sophomore distance runner won the women's 5,000-meter run at the Bellarmine Invitational Friday, recording an NCAA provisional time of 17:09.48 to break a three-year-old UIndy record. A native of Westfield, Ind., Bailey also set a number of program marks in the recently-completed indoor season, setting individual records in the 3K and 5K as well as helping to do the same as part of the distance medley relay team.
Â
Hogan had a big meet at Bellarmine as well, hitting provo marks in the shot put and hammer throw while earning an NCAA automatic bid in the discus. His discus toss of 56.12 meters punched his ticket to Nationals, while his mark of 64.98 meters in the hammer set a new PR.
Â
Monk also racked up provo in the season's opening meet. She took first place in all three events she entered, hitting provisional marks in the discus, hammer throw and shot put.
Â
The Greyhounds will continue their outdoor campaign this weekend at the Oliver Nikoloff Open at the University of Cincinnati this Friday and Saturday, April 5-6.
