NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – The UIndy men's golf team (294-279-295) hosted its annual Greyhound Invitational this week, taking runner-up honors among the region's best teams. The 18-team, 54-hole tournament was hosted at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Ind., Sunday through Tuesday.
The Greyhounds used a scorching second-round score to climb into the No. 2 spot and ultimately hang on. UIndy's Monday tally of 279 (-9) was good for the lowest 18-hole team score of the entire event. They finished ahead of both of the teams ranked ahead of them in the recently-released
Division II Midwest region rankings. However, Ferris State (282-282-287) stayed under par all three rounds, taking the team title by 17 strokes.
Sophomore
Oliver Mast led the way with his eighth top-10 performance of the season. Highlighted by a second-round 67, the Fortville, Ind., native finished tied for ninth at -1.
Sophomore
Ian Carroll settled just one stroke back of his teammate. He carded an even-par 72 in all three rounds to share 11th place among the 96 golfers. Like Mast, junior
Spencer Klimek (73-68-77) went low Monday before settling at in 19th. Junior
Erik Edwards (74-72-74) tied for 26th, while freshman
Cam Carroll (78-77-76) fell back to 73rd.
UIndy also fielded a second five-man team, which topped four other schools on the team leaderboard with scores of 297-299-299. Senior
Reid Lorey (73-74-72) finished at +3 to tie for 23rd. Freshman
Jacob Nickell carded the lowest single-round score for the "Grey" team with a second-round 71, while sophomore
Kyle Wensel finished with a even-par 72 Tuesday.
Meanwhile, seniors Lorey and
Christopher Heck (below) both played in their final Greyhound Invitational.

The Hounds have one more tune-up before defending their GLVC title, as they'll head to Springboro, Ohio for the Wright State Invitational April 14-15.
