INDIANAPOLIS – UIndy track & field student-athlete
Austin Hogan continued his dominating start to the outdoor season, capturing his second consecutive GLVC Field Athlete of the Week nod Tuesday. The senior thrower won both the hammer throw and discus events at the Division I-heavy Oliver Nikoloff Open last weekend.
Â
A product of local Hamilton Southeastern High School, Hogan biggest mark came in the hammer, as his 67.53-meter was good for personal record and an NCAA automatic qualifier. The performance also placed his name second only to former-national-champion Dameion Smith (2004) among the longest hammer throws in program history.
Â
Hogan also won the discus event with a throw of 54.26 meters, while placing third in the shot put at 17.37 meters. He is currently ranked first in the GLVC in all three events, and is now ranked second in DII the hammer, third in the discus and 16th in the shot put.
Â
This is the sixth career GLVC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honor for Hogan – first among active student-athletes.
