Men’s Golf Ends Season at NCAA Regional

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The UIndy men's golf team (296-303-298) wrapped up the 2018-19 season with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA DII Central/Midwest Regional on Friday. Making their 15th consecutive appearance at the regional, the Greyhounds came seven strokes shy of matching sixth place – the final spot advancing to this year's NCAA DII Championships. The 54-hole, 20-team regional was held at Hot Springs Country Club in Hot Springs, Ark.

With weather potential threatening play on Saturday, the schedule was condensed to squeeze 36 holes on Friday instead of the planned 18. The Hounds could not quite match the form they had on Thursday, dropping out of the top six and thus closing their season.

Both Oliver Mast (74-73-73) and Erik Edwards (72-75-74) placed in the top 20 in the massive 108-man field. Mast climbed seven spots into a tie for 14th after a shooting a one-over 73 in morning round Friday and stayed there with another 73 in the afternoon to finish at +4. Edwards, meanwhile, finished at +5 and in 17th place, thanks in part to an opening-round 72.

Sophomore Ian Carroll (73-80-74) dropped to 50th after an 80 in the second round blemished an otherwise solid tournament. Junior Spencer Klemik (77-76-77) shared 70th place and freshman Cam Carroll (81-79-77) tied for 94th.

The Greyhounds concluded a season that featured four team wins and four runner-up performances, including a second-place finish at the GLVC Tournament last month. The Greyhounds' five-man lineup did not include a single senior.

THURSDAY
The Hounds finished the first of three rounds tied for fourth place. Nine back of leader Missouri-St. Louis, UIndy's team score of +8 is two shots better then Arkansas Tech and Southwestern Oklahoma State, who are currently tied for sixth. Only the top six teams at the end of the 54-hole tournament will advance to the NCAA DII Championships later this month.

Earning his second career All-GLVC nod earlier in this week, junior Erik Edwards led the Hounds Thursday with an even-par 72, good for a share of 13th place among the 108 competitors. Sophomore Ian Carroll finished at +1 to tie for 15th. One back of him was sophomore Oliver Mast (74) in 21st place, followed by junior Spencer Klimek (77) in 54th and freshman Cam Carroll (81) in 93rd. The four golfers whose scores counted today combined to shot six-under par over the final four holes.
