Men's Soccer releases 2019 schedule

INDIANAPOLIS – UIndy men's soccer coach John Higgins announced his team's 2019 schedule Monday afternoon. The Greyhounds were once as high as No. 9 in the country last season before making their sixth-straight GLVC tournament appearance.
Ā
The Greyhounds will kick off their regular season hosting Oakland City, Saginaw Valley State, and GLVC foe McKendree in the UIndy Invitational in early September. The Hounds begin their season on Friday night, September 6 against Oakland City in Key Stadium before taking on Saginaw Valley in the final game of the weekend that Sunday afternoon.

Coach Higgins on hosting the UIndy Invitational, "I think it is great to get the quality of teams in the [UIndy] Invitational that we did. We are really excited to host Oakland City as they were a really competitive game for us last year, Saginaw Valley is one of the best teams in the GLIAC and we wanted to match up with them as we felt that game could really help us out later on down the road."
Ā
The Hounds will open and close their GLVC schedule with home matches. UIndy jumps right into conference action on Sunday, September 15th when Bellarmine makes a visit to the south side of Indianapolis. The Hounds will begin to switch between home and away matches before two weeks of away matches and two weeks of home matches to wrap up the regular season.
Ā
"Unbelievable beginning to conference play with Bellarmine, USI, and McKendree all three together as those were three of the toughest games we had last year," said Higgins about his team's conference schedule. "Two of those three games are on the road, so through the first five games of the season we will have a good idea of what kind of group we have. After those three, we have a lot of home games, especially the four home games at the end of the season. That's the time of the season where we like to be at home and not have to travel anywhere so having games like Maryville and Rockhurst at home is huge for us. I am really happy how the schedule turned out for us this year."
Ā
As for rest of the schedule, Higgins had this to say for the upcoming season. "We are going to have an alumni weekend on October 4th and 6th, in the past we have had an alumni game but we turned that into an alumni weekend now. Our alums always look forward to that so we are excited to do that for them. We are hosting Braden's night again on Friday, October 25th, which is always a fun game for us that we love getting a big crowd to. We will hold our Senior Day against William Jewell on November 3rd this year."
