NEW ORLEANS - Twelve student-athletes from the UIndy track and field program, including both the men's and women's team, earned United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) academic honors, the organization announced on Monday.
Both UIndy squads maintained the minimum 3.00 cumulative team GPA to be considered for the award. The UIndy women compiled a 3.49 team GPA as one of 130 Division II women's teams on the list, while the Greyhound men's 3.16 team GPA put them among 79 men's squads to be recognized. Fellow GLVC member Truman posted the highest GPA among all women's teams in NCAA Division II.
Keeton Adams and
Austin Hogan represent the UIndy men, as both attained the minimum requirements of achieving a 3.25 GPA and hitting a provisional or automatic qualifying mark for the NCAA indoor or outdoor championships. A four-time honoree, Hogan was also named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II Track & Field First Team for the third time. During his senior season, Hogan totaled five GLVC titles, including two GLVC Field Athlete of the Year awards, while being named an All-American in three events at the NCAA championships. Adams placed third in the hammer at the GLVC Outdoor Championships after earning the silver at the indoor event in the shot put.
Ten UIndy women earned academic honors by the organization, including 2018 recipient
Katie Monk. Monk, along with
Lauren Bailey,
Mary Costello, and
Mickayla Wenzel, advanced to the NCAA Championships this past outdoor season, while Monk and Bailey also competed at the national event in the indoor campaign.
Brittney Clark,
Keri Ertel,
Kylie Falcone,
Lauren Joseph,
Briana Leonard, and
Megan Young join their teammates as academic recipients for the first time in their careers. Six of the 12 were named to the USTFCCCA All-Region list back in May.
