HAPPY HOMECOMING
UIndy fans and alumni have been treated to a ton of success in recent Homecoming games. The Greyhounds have won eight consecutive Homecoming dates and 12 of their last 13, with the lone loss in that span coming in 2010 versus Northwood. Saturday's contest marks the first time Southwest Baptist has been the Hounds' Homecoming opponent.
ABOUT SOUTHWEST BAPTIST
After enduring a winless 2018 campaign, the Bearcats already have two wins to their credit this fall. SBU dropped a non-conference match-up with William Jewell in the opener but rebounded with victories against former GLVC-members Central State and Kentucky Wesleyan.
The Bearcats have a pair of offensive threats among the conference leaders. Junior wideout Curtis Cuillard is tied for the league lead with 7.3 receptions per game, while sophomore running back Eric Knight is second only to UIndy's own
Al McKeller with 90.3 rushing yards per game.
The Southwest Baptist football team was an associate member of the GLVC for the last five years before becoming a full-fledged member in all sports in 2019-20.
HOUNDS vs. BEARCATS
UIndy owns a 4-1 advantage in its brief history with the Bearcats. After dropping a close 41-37 final at SBU in 2016, the Greyhounds defeated Southwest Baptist each of the last two seasons by an average of 31 points.
Last October, UIndy amassed 657 total yards – its highest offensive output since 2003 – in a
48-14 rout at SBU. Four Greyhound running backs combined to average 10.1 yards per carry on the afternoon, while the Bearcats punted seven times and managed just two scoring drives.
LAST TIME OUT
UIndy matched the second-highest point total in program history with a dominating
63-21 win at McKendree last week. The Hounds amassed 585 total yards and nine touchdowns while punting just two times on the day. The only time a UIndy football team scored more points came way back in 1928 during the Hounds' 97-0 rout of Oakland City.
KEEPING IT ROLLING
The Hounds' win at McKendree made it 19 consecutive wins versus conference opponents. It marks the second-longest win streak for a GLVC squad, second only to UIndy's 22-game streak from 2012-2014. The Greyhounds' last league lost came at Quincy in October of 2016.
UIndy will also be putting its seven-game home win streak on the line Saturday. Furthermore, the Hounds have won each of their last 16 regular-season games at Key Stadium, and are 38-4 (.905) at home overall since 2012.
LIKE A BROKEN RECORD
Senior quarterback
TJ Edwards is coming off a second consecutive record-breaking performance. After setting the new GLVC career record for passing touchdowns versus Hillsdale two weeks ago, the Southwest Baptist transfer delivered an encore at McKendree, breaking conference marks for both career passing yards and career total offense.
Edwards is currently the active Division II leader in a number of career statistics, including total offense (10,461), passing yards (8,903), passing touchdowns (85), and total touchdowns responsible for (109).
RUSH HOUR
The UIndy rushing attack has been a focus for first-year head coach
Chris Keevers, and his team has not disappointed. The Greyhounds are averaging 277.3 rushing yards per game through three weeks, good for 10th in the nation. Reigning GLVC Offensive Player of the Year
Al McKeller leads the conference and ranks 21st in DII at 98.3 yards per game, while sophomore standout
Toriano Clinton tops the league in yards per carry (10.7) while ranking fourth in total rushing yards.
GREYHOUND ASCENDING
As the only player in program history with consecutive 1,000-yard season his first two years,
Al McKeller's meteoric rise up the program's all-time rushing lists is undeniable. The hometown product is barely into his third collegiate season and is already among the school's career leaders in rushing yards and rushing TDs. He is within striking distance of both school records in just his junior season. See below for specific numbers.
