POWELL, Ohio – The UIndy men's golf team earned a decisive win at the season-opening Ohio Dominican Kickoff Classic Tuesday. Fielding both a Crimson and a Grey team, Hounds placed first and second at the tournament, led by a medalist performance by senior
Erik Edwards.
Â
Held at Wedgewood Golf & Country Club in Powell, Ohio, the one day, 36-hole event featured seven schools and 12 different five-man teams, including A and B squads from Division II-opponents Cedarville and ODU.
Â
"We got the 1-2 finish from both teams which feels good," said Head Coach Brent Nicoson, "but we also learned we have a lot of work to do and that was the goal of this tournament. We needed to find out who we are as a golf team.
Â
"There were some solid individual performances highlighted by a great start to the year for Erik. His final-round 68 in those conditions was very impressive."

One of seven Greyhounds in the top 10, Edwards (75-68) successfully navigated an especially-windy second round to finish the event at one-under – four ahead of runner-up and fellow-UIndy-senior
Spencer Klimek (71-76).
Â
Five other Hounds finished at T-9 or better, including
Cam Carroll (73-75) in third place and
Oliver Mast (78-72), Johnny Roder (73-77) and
Jacob Nickell (75-75) at T-4.

UIndy will face a number of GLVC opponents at the upcoming Parkside Fall Invitational, set for Sept. 16-17 at Strawberry Creek Country Club in Kenosha, Wis. The Greyhounds are the defending championships of the event, having won last year's Parkside Invite by 14 strokes.
