Track & Field Finds Success at Collegiate Challenge

INDIANAPOLIS – After the first week of classes in the semester, the UIndy track & field teams competed in the UIndy Collegiate Challenge on Saturday in the ARC. The Greyhounds featured a handful of event winners, while the women also broke a school record in the process.

Berenice Cleyet-Merle continued her dominant season with more high notes, as she claimed both the UIndy school record and event victory in the women's 800 meter. Cleyet-Merle shaved off about two and a half seconds from her previous time, crossing the finish line at 2:13.13. She also competed in the 400 meter, where she placed third in the field on a final time of 56.68.

Brittney Clark emerged as the only other victor on the women's team for the Greyhounds on Saturday. Clark topped the field in the pole vault, where the sophomore reached 3.69 meters in her final attempts. UIndy also featured student-athletes in the second- and third-place spots, as Lauren Joseph and Megan Young both clared 3.59 meters. Jacob Stamm was the men's lone event winner at the meet, as junior crossed the finish line in 4:21.84 in the mile. Teammate Will Reid finished shortly behind, taking second place with his 4:24.93 time.

The Greyhounds also finished in the top three in several other events, rounding out their depth in various places. Keri Ertel received another podium finish in the women's 60m hurdles, this time climbing to second overall in the event on a final time of 9.05. Katrinia Hopkins competed for the second weekend in a row for UIndy as she tossed her shot put 13.84 meters to finish third overall. She would later step in the circle in the weight throw, hurling the weight 17.25 meters to take the runner-up spot.

The men's team showcased Treyton Arnold in the men's pole vault, tying for second place overall on a height of 4.47 meters. Justin Blakey boasted his strength in the shot put, his best throw reaching 15.15 meters.
