INDIANAPOLIS – After claiming each of the first two Great Lakes Valley Conference trophies, the UIndy men's lacrosse team has been predicted to top the league's East Division in 2020, as the GLVC Preseason Poll was released Friday.
Â
The Greyhounds received 45 points and the maximum of nine first-place votes (coaches could not vote for their own team) to pace the division, besting Montevallo, Young Harris, Lander and Alabama Huntsville (aka the "Southern Four"). The Falcons of Montevallo earned the remaining first-place tally.
Â
Rockhurst and Lindenwood were voted as Nos. 1 and 2 in the West, respectively, with Maryville, Lewis and Quincy rounding out the list.
Â
UIndy graduated each of its four All-America selections in 2019 after advancing to the NCAA DII national semifinals at Limestone. The Greyhounds finished 16-3 last season on their way to becoming the fastest program in Division II history to win multiple games in the postseason. All-GLVC Second Team honoree and Inside Lacrosse preseason All-American
Drew Billig returns for his sophomore campaign, while key contributors
Parker Johnson,
Brian Robb,
Jordan McKenzie,
Jack Belobrajdic and
Austin Barnett are also back for UIndy.
Â
The upcoming season marks the fifth in program history, all directed under head coach
Greg Stocks. The British Columbia native was named the 2019 USILA Coach of the Year after the team's historic season, and now sports a 41-20 record in the Circle City.
Â
UIndy kicks off the 2020 campaign in Kansas City, Mo., on Sunday, Feb. 9 against Westminster.
