NEW ORLEANS, La. – After jumping 44 spots last week in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) women's Division II Week 1 rankings, the Greyhound women's track & field teams held inside the top 10 in Tuesday's Week 2 rankings. The program's No. 6 spot keeps them as the highest GLVC team and second-highest team in the Midwest Region.
Berenice Cleyet-Merle continued her reign as owning the fastest time in Division II in the mile, while also maintaining her sixth spot in the women's 800 meter.
Lauren Bailey also remained as a title-contender, sitting at second place overall in the women's 5000 meter. Bailey also ranks within the top five in the 3000 meter at fourth place overall.
Brittney Clark emerged as a top-five student-athlete as well, heading UIndy's field events as the No. 5 pole vaulter currently in Division II.
Katrinia Hopkins is featured in two different events inside the top 20, currently No. 15 in the weight throw and No. 18 in the shot put.
Keri Ertel is the final Greyhound to make her way into the individual rankings, tied for the 17th in the women's 60-meter hurdles.
The Greyhounds currently are the second-highest ranked team from the Midwest Region in the National Rankings, as GVSU sits at the top as the number one team in the nation. The Midwest is also represented by Southwest Baptist (seventh), Tiffin (eighth), Saginaw Valley State (16th) and Southern Indiana (25th).
The UIndy track & field teams will be back in action this weekend in Hillsdale, Mich. The Hillsdale Wide Track Classic, being held on both Feb. 7 and Feb. 8, will commence at 12 p.m. The next USTFCCCA ranking is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
