Track & Field Breaks Records at Meyo Invitational

NOTRE DAME. Ind. – The Greyhound track & field teams competed in two different locations on Saturday, traveling to both the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic and the Meyo Invitational. Indianapolis' throwers took a win over in Hillsdale, while the women smashed two different UIndy records on Notre Dame's track.

MEYO INVITATIONAL
In a very prestigious meet featuring numerous BigTen institutions, Lauren Bailey and Berenice Cleyet-Merle were both invited to run in a few of their events on Saturday. Both ladies finished fifth in their respected races, while also breaking the school record in the process in their respected events.

Cleyet-Merle lined up for the women's mile, dropping seven seconds off her own record and finished on a time of 4:40.49. Her race shifted Cleyet-Merle up the Division II rankings, now sitting second overall in the nation. Lauren Bailey dropped exactly 10 seconds from a UIndy record that she owned as well, ending her race on a time of 9:28.24 in the women's 3000-meter run. Bailey also ranks among the nation's best in the division, currently at second overall in the event.

HILLSDALE WIDE TRACK CLASSIC
The Greyhounds' throwers took the trip up north, scattering the ranks in both the weight throw and the shot put. Katrinia Hopkins led the way in the women's events, claiming the weight throw with her best distance of 17.61 meters and finishing runner-up in the shot put, tossing the ball 14.08 meters. Emily Jonas was also featured with a top-10 finish in the women's shot put, throwing her shot put 11.82 meters for ninth place overall in the event. Jonas would also finish 11th in the weight throw at 14.67 meters.

The men cluttered the shot put final standings, claiming four of the top eight finishes in the event. Brock King outlasted the third-place finisher by .03 meters, reaching a total of 15.66 to slide into the runner-up spot in the event. Tyler Gilbert rounded out the top five with a 15.43 meter distance, as Justin Blakey (seventh; 14.97 meters) and Nic Ray (eighth; 14.94 meters) rounded out the top eight. Mark Sciutto made his way into the top 10 in the men's weight throw, tossing his weight 15.37 meters for ninth overall in the event.

The UIndy track & field teams will once again be at multiple locations this weekend, traveling to Allendale, Mich. And staying in Indianapolis. The Grand Valley State Big Meet will take place on both Feb. 14 and 15, commencing both at 10 a.m. The Greyhounds will also be hosting their UIndy Team Invitational in the ARC on Feb. 15, dualing the meet as their Senior Day. Senior Day will kick off at 12 p.m.
