NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its annual academic awards Friday, with UIndy garnering multiple team and individual accolades. Both the Greyhound men's and women's teams earned All-Academic Team status, while nine Greyhounds nabbed All-Academic honors as individuals, including
Katrinia Hopkins and her 4.0 grade point average.
Â
Both UIndy squads maintained the minimum 3.00 cumulative team GPA to be considered for the award. The UIndy women compiled a 3.47 team GPA as one of 149 Division II women's teams on the list, while the Greyhound men's 3.15 team GPA put them among 114 men's squads to be recognized.
Â
Meanwhile, individual honorees needed a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 while also achieving an automatic or provisional qualifying mark (individual or relay event) for the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Hopkins was one of just 32 female DII student-athletes to meet the individual criteria and also holding down a perfect 4.0. Other Greyhounds to make the cut were
Lauren Bailey,
Brittney Clark,
Berenice Cleyet-Merle,
Keri Ertel,
Lauren Joseph,
Yailene Leon and
Megan Young, as well as UIndy's lone male honoree,
Brian Sales.
