FINDLAY, Ohio – The University of Indianapolis men's golf team kicked off its 2020-21 slate in dramatic fashion, turning a five-stroke deficit into a 10-stroke win at the Doc Spragg Fall Invite Tuesday. Led by medalist
Oliver Mast, the Greyhounds combined for a seven-under 281 over the final 18 holes to leapfrog host Findlay for the team title.
Â
UIndy has now competed at Findlay Country Club five times in the last four years, winning all but one of those tournaments.
Â
Mast was masterful this week, finishing at -6 over 54 holes to capture his first collegiate win. The senior out of Fortville, Ind., started his tournament with a four-under 68 before finishing with a 72 and a 70. After starting the final round in the final group locked in a three-way tie for first, he went birdie-birdie-par on his last three holes to secure the victory.
Â
Senior
Ian Carroll (73-70-71) joined Mast on the all-tournament team, tying for fourth at -2. His tournament included a second-round eagle on No. 4 and three consecutive birdies on the back nine Tuesday.
Â
Like Mast, two other Greyhounds carded a final-round 70 to help the Hounds pull away; senior
Erik Edwards (73-74-70) tied for ninth place, while new-Hound
Keegan Bronnenberg (74-74-70) jumped up to 14th.
Jacob Nickell shot an even-par 72 in the second round before finishing 49th.
Â
Meanwhile, the UIndy "Grey" team tied for ninth, led by senior
Spencer Klimek (+6). The Columbia City, Ind., native used a second-round 69 to help secure a share of 20th. Fellow-upperclassman
Kyle Wensel also had a solid second round, carding a one-over 73 before going on to share 36th place.
Â
Senior
Collin Powers (80-73-71) topped all individual competitors by placing 23rd, thanks in part to a collegiate-low-tying 71 Tuesday.
Â
Freshmen
Bryce Robertson (78-75-78) and
Noah Wolfe (83-78-74) competed in their first collegiate tournament, finishing 47th and 60th, respectively.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds host their own event next week, reviving the Brickyard Invitational – a tournament last held in 2015. Speedway, Ind., and the fabled Brickyard Crossing Golf Course will be the site of the event, set for Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 28-29.
