LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The UIndy softball team earned the No. 21 spot in the 2021 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Preseason Poll, released Wednesday. The Greyhounds are coming off of a 14-5 season, cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak last spring.
Five-time GLVC Coach of the Year
Melissa Frost returns nearly her entire lineup this spring, including six All-GLVC performers. Senior pitcher
Hallie Waters highlights the group as a former Midwest All-Region Second Team honoree. The Greyhounds were among the top teams in the conference before the sudden end to last season, ending the abbreviated schedule on a five-game win streak.
The Hounds are one of two GLVC teams in the preseason poll, as Southern Indiana grabbed the No. 17 spot after finishing 15-4 last season. Meanwhile, Southern Arkansas paces Division II with all 16 first-place votes as the unanimous early-season favorite.
The Greyhounds open up the 2021 slate at the Blue Ridge Classic in Owensboro, Ky., facing off against Trevecca Nazarene on Feb. 13.
